Botanical Name: Myristica fragrans
Plant Description: This essential oil is derived from the Nutmeg evergreen tree. This tree can grow up to 20 meters in height and produces a red fruit that is fleshy. From the dried exterior husk Mace essential oil is produced while the seeds is where the Nutmeg essential oil is distilled from.
Origin: Indonesia
Extraction Method: Steam distilled from the seeds.

Aromatic Fragrance: Medium to strong. It is woody, rich, spicy and sweet. This oil is similar to the cooking spice but is stronger in scent and is richer.
Common Applications: Nutmeg essential oil can be used to help alleviate nausea, muscle aches, constipation, fatigue, arthritis, rheumatism, poor circulation neralgia, and slow digestion.
History: Nutmeg essential oil was used to help alleviate intestinal disorders by the Native Indians. It was used by the Egyptians in the embalming process and by the Italians during the time of the Plague. During the Middle Ages, Nutmeg was grated and mixed with lard which produced an ointment that was used for piles. Nutmeg oil has also been used in candle making, dental products, soaps, and hair lotions.
Storage Directions: Nutmeg Essential Oil should be stored in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Essential Oils should be stored in colored glass, the most common storage method being used today are Boston Round Bottles in the amber tint.
Blends Well With: Nutmeg Essential Oil is considered to be a great addition to many aromatherapy blends as it adds spice and warmth when used in very small amounts. Some oils it blends particularly well with is Clary Sage, Rosemary, Orange, Lavender, Geranium, Petitgrain and other spices.
