Botanical Name: Cymbopogon martini var motia

Plant Description: The Palmarosa plant is wild growing and has terminal flowering tops as well as slender stems. The grassy leaves are very fragrant.

Origin: India

Extraction Method: Steam distilled from the grass leaves.

Color: Pale Yellow

Aromatic Fragrance: Medium to strong. It has a floral and sweet fragrance with a hint of rose.

Common Applications: Palmarosa essential oil is a bactericidal, febrifuge, cicatrizant, hydrating, antiseptic, tonic and stimulant (circulatory and digestive). It is used in perfumes, cosmetics and most predominantly soaps as a fragrance component. This is due to its high tenacity. Aromatherapists consider it a good oil to diffuse during flu outbreaks as it is able to fight bacteria and viruses and has an attractive smell. In her book “Stress: The Aromatic Solution”, Maggie Tisserand recommends Palmarosa for alopecia, lack of concentration, acne, apathy, and depression.

History: Palmarosa essential oil was known in the past as Indian Geranium Oil and was used with more expensive rose oils.

Storage Directions: Palmarosa Essential Oil should be stored in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Essential Oils should be stored in colored glass, the most common storage method being used today are Boston Round Bottles in the amber tint.

Blends Well With: Palmarosa Essential Oil blends well with sandalwood, cedarwood, rosewood, cananga, geranium, guaiacwood and floral oils.
