Botanical Name: Gaultheria Procumbens
Plant Description: The Wintergreen plant is a small evergreen herb. This evergreen can grow up to 15 cm (6 in) in height. It has slender stems, serrated leaves, that are leathery in texture, and consists of white flowers which droop and are followed by scarlet berries that are fleshy.

Aromatic Fragrance: Strong. It has an intense mint candy scent.
Common Applications: It has an historic use as a pain reliever. It is also believed to increase the rate of healing for skin disorders. When added to lotions, it acts as natural moisturizer.
History: Wintergreen has been used historically by Native Indians as a remedy for aches and pains. It was even used to help breathing while carrying heavy loads or hunting. Wintergreen and Sweet Birch are both very similar, almost identical, in both aroma and chemical composition. Both have also been used in traditional folk remedies. These usages have led to the discovery of the main ingredient of Wintergreen, Methyl Salicylate, which acts as a pain reliever.
Storage Directions: Wintergreen Essential Oil should be stored in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Essential Oils should be stored in colored glass, the most common storage method being used today are Boston Round Bottles in the amber tint.
Blends Well With: Wintergreen Essential Oil blends well with Marjoram Sweet, Ylang Yland, Lavender, Vanilla and Birch.
Cautions: Avoid if pregnant. The effects of this oil in young children, nursing women, or those with kidney or liver disease is not known. For external use only.
