Barium Carbonate, Safety Data Sheet
Uses
Barium Carbonate is a chemical compound that is used a lot in the ceramics industry in ceramic glazes. It behaves like a flux which is a crystallizing and matting agent and combines with particular coloring oxides in order to produce unique colors which are not easily created by any other means. Some claim, however, that the barium carbonate can leach from the glazes into any food or drink in the ceramic container.
In order to be safe, Barium Carbonate is used often in fritted form. In the tile, earthenware, brick and pottery industries, Barium Carbonate is used as an addition to clays to precipitate soluble salts such as calcium and magnesium sulfates that cause efflorescence. Barium Carbonate is also used in cement making, manufacturing porcelain and glass and in the past it had been used for refining sugar. It is also used in rat poison.

How Does this Ship?
Our ingredients are
normally shipped out in strong, re-closeable plastic bags, the larger
sizes (50 lbs size and multiples of 50 Lb) are shipped in strong
paper / plastic industrial strength bags typically used for 50 lb
chemicals. In some cases, depending on stock levels, we might use
multiple bags to fulfill an order, for example, 16 lbs might be 4 x 4
lbs rather than a single 16 lb bag. If the packaging size is a
concern please contact us and we will be happy to work with you.
