Bay Essential Oil, derived from the leaves of the Laurus nobilis tree, has a rich history dating back to ancient times. The use of bay leaves and their aromatic oil has been documented in various cultures, including the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, who valued the plant for its medicinal, culinary, and spiritual applications.

Ancient Greece

In ancient Greece, the bay tree held great significance as it was associated with the god Apollo, the deity of prophecy, healing, and poetry. The Greeks believed that bay leaves could bestow the gift of prophecy, and the leaves were used in the famous Oracle of Delphi to induce prophetic visions. Bay leaves were also used to create laurel wreaths, which were awarded to victors in athletic competitions, poets, and scholars as a symbol of honor and achievement.

Ancient Rome

Following the Greeks, the Romans also held the bay tree in high esteem. They continued the tradition of awarding laurel wreaths to triumphant individuals, such as military leaders and politicians, as a symbol of victory and accomplishment. The term "resting on one's laurels" originates from this practice and refers to relying on one's past achievements rather than striving for future successes.

Bay leaves were also used in Roman medicine for their various therapeutic properties, including their ability to alleviate digestive issues, respiratory problems, and infections. Additionally, the oil extracted from bay leaves was used in massage to relieve muscle pain and soothe inflammation.

Ancient Egypt

The Egyptians, known for their advanced knowledge of herbal medicine, also utilized bay leaves and their essential oil for various purposes. They recognized the antimicrobial and preservative properties of the oil and used it in the mummification process to help preserve the bodies of the deceased. Bay Essential Oil was also used in the preparation of medicinal ointments and balms to treat various ailments.

Traditional Medicine

Throughout history, Bay Essential Oil has been used in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and herbal medicine for its wide range of therapeutic properties. The oil has been employed to treat ailments like digestive issues, respiratory problems, rheumatic pain, skin infections, and more. Its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties have made it a valued component in various remedies and treatments.

Modern Usage

Today, Bay Essential Oil continues to be valued for its therapeutic properties and captivating scent. The oil is widely used in aromatherapy, skincare, soap making, candle making, and cosmetics, providing numerous benefits for the skin, hair, and overall well-being. How Does this Ship?

Our ingredients are normally shipped out in strong, re-closeable plastic bags, the larger sizes (50 lbs size and multiples of 50 Lb) are shipped in strong paper / plastic industrial strength bags typically used for 50 lb chemicals. In some cases, depending on stock levels, we might use multiple bags to fulfill an order, for example, 16 lbs might be shipped in 4 x 4 lbs bags rather than a single 16 lb bag. If the packaging size is a concern please contact us and we will be happy to work with you.

This is a favorite among my customers. I always recommend bay laurel to individuals who are looking for something to help ease arthritic symptoms.
